Captain Missouri featured on Daniel Johnston tribute compilation

Hola Com Estas, a Daniel Johsnton tribute compilation, was released a few weeks ago by spanish musician The Missing Leech. The comp features a cover of "I had lost my mind" from our very own Captain Missouri. I haven't heard anything from this cd as of yet but I hear it's good stuff so check it out. It's apparently already sold over 100 copies.

Things to know about us

SoundsAbound is a recording collective and a unified joint-effort system between a few of the lesser known musicians in Cincinnati, Ohio. We are not a record label. We are a shapeless group of bands and individual artists dedicated to acheiving our goals by pooling our resources and forming a network amongst ourselves and beyond. In time we hope to expand our reach to other groups who would join us in our cause to keep music and art a tradition of our "culture", not as a country or a form of society in the conventional sense of the word but as disciplined musicians and artists who believe in " true" art. Musicians who believe that real music is not made by over-payed fashion models with minimal musical experience, augmented with technology of the digital era, conducted by producers and labels to achieve a commercial sound that has "appeal" and is profitable, but by real musicians with real talent. We are those who would refuse to accept this as how music should be represented to the public. I would personally sooner die than allow the future of music this fate. How long before the demand for "pretty people" to be the face of music exceeds the number of them with actual talent? In time music will be created by computer programs, designed to have that perfect pop sound and we won't even need musicians to make it. Originality will mean nothing. Those of us who have struggled for years to create original music, sweating over our instruments, barely scraping by in our meaningless local "scenes" will have struggled for nothing. I have been doing this for years now and have met too many people with real talent for creating original sounds who have worked hard to get where they are now and I feel that they still deserve more, more than many successful "musicians", and at least more than they have achieved thus far. We should not waste the efforts we have made for ourselves and for our art.

But it's not all negativity and underground musicians brooding over our lack of success.

Over the years we have come farther than ever before by working together. We throw our own shows that get bigger and better every time. We press our own releases and personally handle their distribution, operate our own websites and always try to exploit the network in every way possible. We do not limit ourselves when it comes to reaching out in any and all directions. Word-of-mouth can get you pretty far in local areas as well as use of the internet and other networks. We have amassed recording equipment as well as facilities in which to use them and make movies and run operations to put up flyers and hand out demos. We share our knowledge and experience with recording, writing, and jamming with one another. We're all good friends and we mostly just make music and sit around ripping bongs. When a new idea emerges we know who we can count on to get that shit done and that shit gets done. I know that this system works and I want to push as far as I can with this to see how far it can go. I have faith in us and what we do. I can say with confidence that we work with some of the best musicians in the area in a way that works best for us. I want to expand on it and welcome all of those with goals who believe in progress, unity and how it can help musicians and artists along the way.

It's not about changing music. It's about making it right and leaving exactly the way it is.
